The power of social web and volunteerism in display. What started as an idea has become a reality.

The desire to educate parents on cyber safety was birth in the middle of Sonnie’s lecture on brand management. He thought why not empower parents to keep their kids safe online? He presented his thoughts among his facebook buddies and called for volunteers, and the rest is history.

Yesterday, more or less 60 parents with their kids showed up and listened to the lectures, watched videos, shared experiences and laughed together [view the pictures here].

But this will not happen without the support and help that came from people and organizations:

Chay offered to speak for the seminar since she shares the same advocacy. Interestingly, Chay and Sonnie do not know each other personally, somehow, they got connected to Facebook thru common friends. She is also instrumental in getting windows 7 to co present the event.

Carlo, Sonnie’s friend, a gamer and social media expert, agreed to speak on the topic of onlne games.

Girlie and Griemond volunteered to take care of the creatives for the event, including e-posters and videos.

Randell is instrumental in getting Victory Greenhills to co present the Aug14 event. While Josephine took care of the back end work. Peter Baltazar and Phil IT are our photographers.

GW Cars provided transpo for participants coming from the North area,  Inquirer Job Market helped on promoting the event, Creative Voices ensures that the seminar can be watched via live streaming. Wi Tribe provided the back-up internet. The complete list of  donors who supported the event are as follows:

And this is just the beginning… if the resources permit and an opportunity presents itself, this seminar will be brought to school and  home associations when possible.

The next schedule will be on Aug 14, 2010,  3 PM at Victory Greenhills Training Center, Promenade, Greenhills, San Juan.
